Ahmedabad, Gujarat - It is the most significant infrastructure project, called Ahmedabad- Dholera Expressway, which can transform the connectivity
and economic prosperity of Gujarat. Its length of 109 kilometers gives it the status as the flag countrywide four-lane access-controlled road of
contributing to a congestion free traffic and fostering better travel experiences for the commuters between Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar.

DHOLERA EXPRESSWAY

The Dholera Expressway (officially the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway) is a crucial 109 km, four-lane greenfield highway in Gujarat, connecting Ahmedabad (Sarkhej) to Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) and Adhelai, cutting travel time significantly. Developed at ?4200 crore, it's nearing completion (around 98% done as of late 2025), featuring modern interchanges and flyovers, boosting connectivity for the developing Dholera Smart City, including new industrial areas like Tata's semiconductor fab, with major parts expected by 2027.

 

The Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway embodies the federal government's resolve to piggyback on transportation developments across the country. Planned and implemented by the National Highway Development Authority of India (NHAI) as a Project under BHARAT MALA Pariyojana Scheme, this project will bridge the gap in connectivity between two major cities of Gujarat i.e. Ahmedabad and Dholera.

This greenfield project of estimated cost Rs 3,500 crore, strategically
designed so as to lift traffic pressure and to cut the time of going from
Ahmedabad to Dholera by an hour. By the end of construction, the highway
with four entrance ramps, will be 8 and 12 lanes wide in different sections. The
program will be from Sardar Patel Ring Road near Sarkhej to Adhelai, in
Bhavnagar, the final point.

The track of the expressway going from Sardar Patel Ring Road at Sarkhej towards Dholera via major junctions and finally Adhelai, Bhavnagar. On this way, travelers will walk through the key points for example Sindhrej, Vejalaka and Dholera SIR, highlighting its crucial position in the regional connectivity and development.

COST OF AHMEDABAD-DHOLERA EXPRESSWAY

Rs 3,500 crore will be spent on construction of the expressway, which is divided into four packages, given to various contractors, Troubles like land acquisition and disruptive weather notwithstanding, the project is a whopping 70 percent complete, thus demonstrating great progress to the intended August 2024 delivery date.

LATEST UPDATE OF DHOLERA EXPRESSWAY

The Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway is in its final construction stages, nearly 98% complete as of late 2025, with rapid progress on remaining sections, paving the way for enhanced connectivity to Dholera Smart City, a key part of India's industrial growth. This greenfield project, connecting Sardar Patel Ring Road to Dholera, is a major development alongside solar parks and major investments from companies like Tata for semiconductor plants, signaling Dholera's transformation into a significant industrial hub.
